Virginia farmers who suffered losses in 2008 have until Sept. 30 to apply for payment under the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency.
SURE provides crop disaster assistance payments to eligible producers on farms that have incurred crop production or crop quality losses.
To be eligible, producers must have suffered at least a 10 percent production loss on a crop of economic significance. In addition, producers must meet the risk management purchase requirement by either obtaining a policy or plan of insurance. Applications for 2009 losses will be taken later this fall.
