When John A. Kufuor was elected president of Ghana in 2000, the country was reeling from years of neglect. Kufuor turned his efforts to improving cropping practices for cocoa and conditions for the people, and changes began to occur. When asked about the turnaround, Kufuor gave credit to his government in a press briefing held at this year’s World Food Prize Symposium in Des Moines, Iowa. Kufuor dedicated the prize to the people of Ghana.
