Alabama Agriculture & Industries Commissioner Ron Sparks has announced the Pesticide Clean Day Program collection times for winter 2005.

The Pesticide Clean Day Program allows farmers, nurserymen, and pest control operators to take advantage of safe disposal of unwanted or unused pesticide wastes at no charge. Participants who have pre-registered with their local Extension agent by Dec. 5 will be able to dispose of their various materials.

The dates and locations for the Pesticide Clean Days are: Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, 8:00 a.m. until noon in Thorsby, Ala.; Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, 8:00 a.m. until noon in Foley, Ala.

Materials that will be accepted include both known and unidentifiable pesticide waste, such as insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other products such as defoliants and growth retardants.

Products that will not be accepted include, but are not limited to: explosives or ordinance materials, petroleum products (such as motor oil), paints, tires, medical waste, radioactive materials, or seeds.

Sponsors of the two day event include the Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries, Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Legacy-Partners in Environmental Education, and CAWACO Resource Conservation and Development Council.
