Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on Washington, D.C., Congressional leaders and staffers found the going hard without Virginia-type peanuts due to the ban on shipments, said Russell Schools, executive secretary of the Virginia Peanut Growers Association.

“They called and asked how they could get them,” Schools recalls. The Virginia group is now sending the shipments of peanuts directly to the staffers who bring them to their work on Capitol Hill.
