Cotton production in North Carolina is forecast to total 705,000 bales, up 12 percent from last month’s forecast, but down 45 percent from last year’s production of 1.285 million bales.

The USDA November yield forecast at 684 pounds per acre increased from the October estimate of 611pounds per acre.

Harvested acres are expected to total 495,000 compared with 865,000 acres harvested in 2006.

Soybean yield is forecast to average 21 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel per acre from last month’s forecast but down 11 bushels from last year. Production is forecast to total 28.8 million bushels, down 34 percent from last year. Harvested area is projected at 1.37 million acres, unchanged from last month’s forecast.

Corn for grain yield is forecast at 96 bushels per acre, up 7 bushels per acre from last month but down 36 bushels from last year’s record high of 132 bushels per acre. Production is forecast to total 98.9 million bushels, 1 percent more than last year.

Harvested acres are unchanged from last month’s forecast at 1.03 million, up 290,000 from 2006.

Peanut production is forecast at 239.2 million pounds, up 8 percent from last month but down 11 percent from last year’s production. Harvested area is projected at 92,000 acres. Yield per acre is forecast at 2,600 pounds, up 200 pounds from last month and down 600 pounds per acre from last year.
