Many Florida corn growers have struggled through a difficult harvest this season.
Every year they expect difficulties with equipment, labor, trucking, weather, and dozens of other complications that farmers must work through. However, this year growers are seeing the additional challenge of harvesting corn fields that are as much as 100 percent lodged or blown down.
The situation is typical of that seen in Columbia County, Fla. Recently, Mace Bauer, Extension agent for Columbia County, visited some of these fields and put together two videos that explain why some of the crop went down, and show the actual harvest of lodged corn.
