The third annual Southern Peanut Growers Conference is set for July 22-24 at Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City, Fla.
Keynote speakers for this year's conference include Texas Congressman Larry Combest, chairman of the House Agriculture Committee; Alabama Congressman Terry Everett, chairman of the House Ag Committee's subcommittee on specialty crops and foreign agriculture program; Marshall Lamb, economist with the National Peanut Research Laboratory; and Paul Blankenship, U.S. Agriculture Research Service.
Speakers from the National Peanut Board will discuss research and promotion programs and ongoing projects, and a panel will discuss the latest happenings with various commodities.
Also featured at this year's conference will be the presentation of the Farm Press Peanut Profitability Awards for 2001. Growers from each of the three U.S. peanut-producing regions will be honored for their efficient production techniques.
The registration fee for the conference is $95 each for U.S. peanut growers, their spouses and children. Registration fees for media, government, Extension and research representatives is $245 each. The registration deadline for the conference is June 25.
