Tennessee schedules Beef Expo for Oct. 8

Cattle producers interested in protecting their investment during this difficult economy will want to attend the 2009 Northeast Tennessee Beef Expo.
Scheduled for Oct. 8, the event will be held at the University of Tennessee Research and Education Center at Greeneville.
Registration and a trade show will begin at 7:00 a.m., and the program will begin at 8:00. The cost to attend the day-long program is $10, which includes a luncheon. Participants are asked to pre-register with a local UT Extension office by Monday, Sept. 28.
Topics for this year’s event include: truck & trailer safety; winter & summer annuals; forage & beef cow math; strategies to deal with genetic defects; and managing reproduction. Producers will have the opportunity to learn from UT Extension specialists and other experts about methods and techniques that can help them achieve more efficient and profitable operations.
Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture Ken Givens will welcome the participants with brief remarks, and a luncheon presentation is scheduled. “Animal Welfare: What Do You Need to Know?” will be presented by Dr. Fred Hopkins, professor and DVM with UT Extension, while participants enjoy a catered lunch.
The event is co-sponsored by UT Extension Eastern Region, and the UT Research and Education Center at Greeneville.
“We invite everyone to participate in the sessions, view exhibits and learn first hand about managing their operations profitably,” said Rob Ellis, director of the UT Research and Education Center at Greeneville. “A trade show will feature many of our sponsors and educational materials.”

The UT Research and Education Center at Greeneville is located off U.S. Highway 70 approximately 5 miles south of Greeneville on East Allens Bridge Road. The center is one of 10 outdoor laboratories operated by the UT AgResearch system as part of the UT Institute of Agriculture.
