The Deep South Fruit & Vegetable Growers Conference & Trade Show has been forced to move. We have been informed that due to construction at the original location in Biloxi, Miss., they would not be able to host the conference.

The Dec. 7-9, 2005 meeting is now scheduled for the Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile, Ala. This is the same location we have had for the past two years. It is an excellent facility and has worked well for us in the past.

The plan's for this year's meeting are well under way. But we are doing a few things differently this year at the request of many of you from last year.

Last year we had a general session on Wednesday afternoon and nine concurrent sessions on Thursday. This year we will have concurrent sessions, some starting Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. and some starting at noon.

On Thursday we will have four concurrent all-day sessions.

Some of the topics for Wednesday will be “New Blueberry Growers,” “New Vegetable Growers,” “Agribusiness,” “Computers — How To Start a Web site — How to Improve a Web site,” “Labor,” “Insurance,” “Farmer's Markets,” “Minority Farming,” and others. Some of these topics will be combined into one meeting room.

Thursday will be devoted to fruits, vegetables, organics, and blueberries.

So, mark your calendars now for Dec. 7-9, 2005 for the Deep South Fruit & Vegetable Growers Conference & Trade Show to be held at the Riverview Plaza Hotel, Mobile, Ala.

Call early for reservations at 1-251-438-4000. Be sure to tell them you are coming for the conference to receive special room rates.

If you have not attended this meeting in the past and are not on our mailing list, but would like to be, you may send your address to P.O. Box 5034, Meridian, Miss., 39302, or send e-mail to guyf@mdac.state.ms.us.
