Row-crop producers, cattle producers, natural resource managers, and anyone else having an interest in agriculture is invited to attend the upcoming 21st Annual Milan No-Till Field Day. The field day will be held from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2001 on the North Tract of the Milan Experiment Station.

The day-long event promises to cover a variety of topics important to surviving and thriving in today’s agricultural environment.

Field Day activities will run continuously from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the last tours beginning at 2:00 p.m. Visitors wishing to complete all the research tours should arrive early, says Blake Brown, superintendent of the Milan Experiment Station.

Brown and his staff have packed this event with informational tours and talks targeted at improving any producer’s operation. The wide array of subjects to be covered include: No-Till Management of Lime and Fertilizer; Grain Storage; Beef Cattle Production; Farmstead Weed Control; No-Till Wheat, Soybeans, and Corn; No-Till Cotton; Forestry — Production, Management and Marketing; and Irrigation.

As always, the event will feature a large number of commercial and educational exhibits as well as equipment demonstrations. Visitors to the display area will have the opportunity to view the latest in agricultural equipment and innovations and talk one-on-one with industry representatives.

Weather permitting, the equipment demonstration tour will feature farm equipment in operation.

The Milan Experiment Station has a long-standing commitment to helping farmers contain soil erosion and to finding innovative ways to improve production systems. The Station is proud to lead the nation in no-till crop technology.

The No-Till Crop Production Field Day is the nation’s largest no-till field day event. UT’s on-going no-till research program has brought worldwide attention to the Milan Experiment Station, which is one of 11 research centers in the statewide Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station System.
