Cotton-related issues to be highlighted

The annual Southeast Cotton Conference is on tap for Jan. 27 in Rocky Mount, N.C., at the Nash Community College.
Sponsored by Southeast Farm Press, the conference is a forum for upper Southeast growers to discuss issues related to cotton marketing and production. The cost of the conference is $20 at the door, $10 in advance. Breakfast and lunch are included in the cost. Application is being made for Certified Crop Advisor CEUS and pesticide credits with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.
Last year, the annual Southeast Farm Press-sponsored conference changed locations to the Rocky Mount, N.C., site to an enthusiastic response.
The spacious facilities of the Business and Industry Center on the campus of the Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, N.C., provide an excellent facility for the conference. Growers have the chance to interact with both exhibitors and speakers during the conference.
The conference offers growers and others in the industry timely topics related to marketing, production and trends.
A hot topic will be the current situation in the textile industry and what it means for cotton growers.
Cultural practices, varieties and insect and weed control will be covered by specialists with the Cooperative Extension services at Virginia Tech, North Carolina State University and Clemson University.
Seed companies will be on hand to answer questions about new varieties for the 2004 growing season. Narrow-row cotton will also be discussed.
The Carolinas Cotton Growers Cooperative will give away a bale of cotton by drawing during the conference. Traditionally, the cooperative has bought back the bale from the winner. Door prizes will also be given away during the conference.
