Southern corn rust spreading across south Georgia

• We have confirmed that southern corn rust is present in the following counties: Seminole, Terrell, Worth, Atkinson, Ben Hill and Brooks.

Bob Kemerait, University of Georgia Extension pathologist, reports “It is clear that southern corn rust is widespread across the Coastal Plain of Georgia, likely as a result of Tropical storm Beryl and rainy days since then.”

We have confirmed that southern corn rust is present in the following counties: Seminole, Terrell, Worth, Atkinson, Ben Hill and Brooks.

Therefore, the disease is in west, central and now developing in east Georgia. It will continue to develop and spread with each rain event and also with irrigation.
