Ed Jernigan to headline conference

Join Southeast Farm Press for the annual Southeast Cotton Conference Jan. 25 at the Nash Community College in Rocky Mount.

Ed Jernigan, president and CEO of Globecot and the Jernigan Group, will headline a group of speakers on the topic, “Cotton in a New Era.”

A noted cotton marketing expert, Jernigan calls the new era “The China Century,” pointing to China's growing influence in world cotton markets.

This year's conference also features a discussion about new cotton technology; and updates from experts with the Extension services at North Carolina State University, Clemson University and Virginia Tech.

A North Carolina State University Extension plant pathologist will give an update on Asian soybean rust, its biology and control.

The conference provides a mid-winter break for farmers to discuss the coming season and reflect on the past season.

Sponsored by Southeast Farm Press, the conference is a forum for upper Southeast growers to discuss issues related to cotton marketing and production.

The cost of the conference is $20 at the door, $10 in advance.

John Deere Company is the sponsor of the lunch. Bayer CropScience is sponsoring the breakfast. Stoneville, an Emergent Genetics company, is sponsoring the break.

Application has been made for Certified Crop Advisors CEUs and pesticide credits with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

The spacious facilities of the Business and Industry Center on the campus of Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, N.C., provide an ideal location for the conference. Growers have a chance to interact with both exhibitors and speakers during the conference.
