David Burns elected CCI president

David Burns, a Laurel Hill, N.C., cotton producer, was elected president of Cotton Council International for 2006, moving up from first vice president. He was named during CCI's board of directors meeting in Tucson, Ariz.

CCI is the National Cotton Council's export promotions arm and carries out programs in more than 50 countries globally under the COTTON USA trademark.

Burns succeeds Gary Taylor, a Memphis merchant, who becomes CCI board chairman.

Other CCI officers elected for 2006 are: first vice president Michael M. Adams, cooperative official from Greenwood, Miss; second vice president Robert S. Weil, II, a Montgomery, Ala, merchant; and treasurer, Clyde Sharp, a Roll, Ariz, producer. Mark D. Lange of Memphis, Tenn., was re-elected secretary and Allen A. Terhaar of Washington, D.C., was re-elected assistant secretary.

CCI elected three new directors for 2006 — Larry McClendon, a producer, Marianna, Ark.; Manfred Schiefer, a merchant, Lubbock, Texas; and Harding Stowe, a manufacturer, Belmont, N.C.
