The 15th Annual Virginia Cotton Economics and Production Meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 19, 2013, at the Regional Workforce Development Center, Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, Va.

On-site registration is available from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., but participants who pre-register may take advantage of a half-price fee.

Organized by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), Virginia Cotton Growers Association, Virginia Cotton Board, Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) and the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, this event includes an economics and production meeting as well as the annual meetings of the Virginia Cotton Growers Association and the Virginia Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation. 

The Cotton Economics meeting will take place in the morning, followed by lunch for all paid attendees. The 2013 Annual Statewide Cotton Production Meeting will take place in the afternoon.

• Ames Herbert, Virginia Tech, Cotton Insect Pest Management Update;

• Chris Drake, Virginia Tech, County Variety Trial Results;

Pesticide recertification credits will be available for those applying and attending the production sessions.

2012 cotton production is estimated to be up 23 percent from 2011. The cotton yield averaged 1,129 pounds per acre, up 453 pounds from 2011, which is a record high. Producers harvested 85,000 acres in 2012, a decrease of 30,000 acres from last year.
