Pre-planting tips and overviews of current issues related to the peanut industry will be a few of the topics discussed during the 2006 Alabama Regional Peanut Production Meetings. A total of six of these type meetings have been scheduled in February throughout the state's peanut-producing area.

Peanut producers will have the opportunity to receive the most up-to-date production tips, legislative, and economic news by attending one of these industry meetings.

Speaker panel members will include: Alabama Peanut Producers Executive Director Randy Griggs — Legislative/Farm Bill Update; Auburn University Peanut Agronomist Dallas Hartzog — Which Peanut Variety?; Marshall Lamb of the National Peanut Research Laboratory — Peanut Economics for the Next Two Years; Austin Hagan of Auburn University's Cooperative Extension System — Peanut Diseases; and Ron Weeks of Auburn University's Cooperative Extension System — Pest Management.

There will also be grower panel speaking at some of the production meetings. A meal will be served at each of the meeting sites.

The meetings are coordinated by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and are hosted by the Alabama Peanut Producers Association, in conjunction with local Alabama Farmers Federation county organizations and additional sponsors.
